Temple’s One-Year Eating & Sleep Schedule

I haven’t done a “Temple Update” since she was 7-months old!  She’s turning one in less than a week (cue all the tears), so I thought now would be the perfect time to check in. Things have changed a LOT in the past few months, so I’ll catch you up to speed on Temple’s new eating and sleep schedules, and our fave new products!

If you follow me on Instagram then you know how much Baby Girl loves her food, so if you haven’t already, make sure to check out my Guide to Baby-Led Weaning for a more in-depth look at our approach to “baby food”… which turns out, isn’t really baby food at all!

We Are Down to 2 Naps per day.

The biggest change to T’s schedule over the past few months is the transition to 2 naps a day (on most days).  She naturally weaned herself from that third nap for the most part, but sometimes she’ll decide she needs a little afternoon cat nap (30-45 minutes) if she wakes up early that morning.

On a typical day, Temple wakes up around 6:30 am and we breastfeed, then have a solid breakfast around 7:00 am – girlfriend wakes up hungry! Her first nap is around 9:00 am and she naps for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Her second nap is her long one, which usually falls around 1:30 pm (more details on that below). This nap is close to 2 hours long. I LOVE and CHERISH nap 2 – that’s when I get stuff done!

Note: Our goal is to keep Temple awake for 3-hours between her naps!

Nighttime Sleep:

Temple officially sleeps through the night!!! PRAISE BE!!!

At around 10-months this little stinker decided she was finally ready to sleep through the night without that midnight snack. If you are looking for some nighttime sleep help, check out my 7-month update where I offer some tips & tricks that helped our little fam. I give huge credit to my incredible sleep coach, Sleep Happy, for helping in our sleep journey.

We still Breastfeed on-demand:

I do not follow a super strict breastfeeding schedule. I ALWAYS feed her when she wakes up in the morning and right before bed at night, then usually 1-2 additional times per day (most often before nap #2). We’ve been so lucky that breastfeeding is still going well for us. Feedings are now more like a “snack”, and they only take about 5 minutes. Make sure to check out my breastfeeding post for tips, recipes, etc. to help with your breastfeeding journey.

Note: I love using supplements from Legendary MilkThey use only 100% organic ingredients, and I have seen a significant improvement in my supply since taking them. They offer several blends to choose from, so make sure to do your research to find what’s best for you. I’m currently taking Liquid Gold and Pump Princess. BONUS- I have a discount code for 15% off!! Use code MADA15 at checkout for 15% off any items.

I also love Miracle Milk Kookies. I noticed an increase in my supply after eating one per day for only a few days. And, they’re honestly SO yummy, so they make a great gift for a new mama friend, and they ship right to your door. Use code: madaleighblog for 30% off your first purchase.

Now, let’s get to Temple’s full schedule…

Temple’s 12-Month Schedule:

6:30-7:00 am: Temple wakes up for the day! We immediately change her diaper, and I breastfeed her.

7:00-7:30 am: Breakfast then play!

9:00-9:30 am: Down for Nap #1. This nap is usually 45 minutes to an hour long.

Note: Temple’s shortest wake time is before Nap #1. This tends to be when babies are the most tired. We try to keep her up for a full 3 hours, but she usually only lasts about 2 and a half before nap #1. This is often when we’ll take our morning walk to keep her up a little longer – it’s also just a great start to our day!

10:00-10:30 am: Wake up from Nap #1. Snack (ideas listed below) then playtime, a walk or errands with Mama.

12:00 pm: Lunchtime!

1:30 pm: Down for Nap #2 – her last and longest nap of the day. She typically sleeps for 1 and a half to 2 full hours. Before or after Nap #2 is when we typically breastfeed.

3:30 pm: She usually wakes up from Nap #2 around 3:30-4:00 pm. We play for an hour or so before dinner.

5:00 pm: Dinner!

5:30 pm: Bathtime or playtime. We do not bathe every day – it just depends on how messy dinner was that night! After bath or play, it’s onto the bedtime routine (see details in my bath + bedtime routine post).

6:30- 7pm: Bedtime!

Snack Ideas:

I highly recommend checking out my Instagram page where I share Temple’s meals + snacks daily. I also have a highlight section on Instagram titled “Baby-Led” & “Baby-Led 2” with all my favorite recipes and ideas!

Note: We ALWAYS have snack time in her high chair. In fact, we do all the meals in her high chair with no TV on or distractions. That way, she focuses on her food and eats until she is full.

Here are some snacks we love:

  • String cheese (I break these up into small bites)
  • Dave’s Killer Bread lightly toasted with hummus or nut butter on top. Note: I try to use a variety of nut butters – almond, peanut, sunflower, etc – so that she is exposed to each regularly.
  • Cottage cheese with Trader Joe’s “Everything But The Bagel” seasoning on top
  • Deli Turkey and fruit
  • Full-fat yogurt with a swirl of nut butter and fruit mixed in
  • LEFTOVERS or Meal-Prepped Veggies: I love letting Temple snack on leftovers or veggies I’ve prepped for the week. Ex: cubed butternut squash or carrot fries.

  1. I love that you do these feeding and schedule posts! As a momma who loves her schedules, this helps! I just read her 7 month schedule as well. Our LO is almost 10 months. My question is, how or when did you drop the nursing session after her first nap? Did you just start offering solids instead? We are still nursing 5 times a day plus breakfast, 1 snack and dinner. As a new mom, I just don’t know if I wait for her to ween herself from some of the nursing sessions, just keep nursing this much or start offering more solids. It’s so great to have other momma’s to bounce ideas off of!

    1. Hi! When she started eating solids, it just became easier to drop feedings slowly. Temple just wasted as interested in nursing and more interested in food. I wish I had a particular way I did it, but it really just happened naturally. I would continue nursing if it’s going great, and baby is showing tons of interest!! Temple was just less interested in the boob haha.

  2. Thanks for always sharing so freely. How often would you give Temple milk (alternatives) and did you give them during snack/meal time?

  3. Love being able to go back and find these schedules! They are super helpful and reassuring!! Love the snack time tips too
